Title: The Unknown God August 9, 2013
Author: Robert Porter
The unknown God that the Apostle Paul was speaking of to the Athenians is still the living God. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But just as in that day when they ignorantly worshiped this unknown God, our generation, mainly because of some religion we follow, ignorantly worship a God we know nothing about. So I drew upon my relationship with the Spirit to create this story that I hope will go a long way in helping you to know this God also. The One the Athenians called…“The Unknown God.”
Judging from what Paul said to those that were at Athens, Paul understood the difference between the God of his fathers and Jesus:
“Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” – Acts 17:22-31. (KJV).
Paul understood that Jesus was the One whom God had ordained as the Christ and had raised from the dead. And that Jesus was this Temple not made by the hands of man, that the God of his fathers, the living God, had suddenly come to when Jesus went to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist.
The Spirit declared while I was praying in the Spirit:
“You are called just as John the Baptist was called as His servant Elijah, but your testimony indeed is more akin to the Apostle Paul’s. Save, Paul was appointed an apostle in the Body of Christ by God, you have been appointed to a secondary position as a prophet. But in the Kingdom of man, by Me, you are still a king. There are no kings in the Body of Christ. And there is only one Priest in this Church of the living God. His name is Jesus.
“You serve Jesus with all your heart and soul,” the Spirit continued. “But you worship God and the Father in spirit, the same angel called Elijah that you serve Jesus with, and in Truth. And in Truth that would be Me, God’s holy Spirit of truth and righteousness from above called Jerusalem.
“What you have is of God, not of man,” revealed the Spirit, “and certainly not of some religious doctrine. I am a living thing. I am not a dead thing. And neither is God. And neither is Jesus, now at the right hand of God, waiting for this day that you have been called to prepare the way for, the great and dreadful day of the Lord, the day when our Lord will make Jesus’ enemies in the Antichrist spirits His footstool. (Ps. 110:1).
“You have no more excuses, Robert. If the ones you beg to help you will not help you to get the word out about your calling, it is only because they are not one of Mine’s, thus says the Lord. Keep trying until you find one. You will. Be persistent. Fight the good fight. Stay the course. Stay faithful. Be a living witness. And if someone should provide a platform for you to walk upon, trust that I will be there to give you a mouth to speak. Now wont that be a hoot?” revealed the Spirit with a touch of humor.
While I am called of God much as John the Baptist was called to prepare the way before Him when He came to Jesus’ flesh and blood body, my testimony is more akin to the apostle Paul’s in the sense that he had a zeal for God, before knowing anything about Jesus, and was baptized by Jesus into the Holy Ghost and the Spirit of fire. I also had a zeal for God before learning about Jesus when I read the Bible for the first time, and accepted Jesus into my heart and soul as my personal Lord and Savior, at the age of 43. But I have had a personal relationship with the living God all my life through my angel Elijah and the occasional visits from the Spirit.
Now when I go into my closet and pray to our Father to let His Kingdom come, my Granddaddy who art in heaven never fails to let His Kingdom Spirit come.
“As a Messenger of truth from the living God when it comes to the Kingdom of My heavenly Father,” the Spirit chimed in, “and as that Peace of God which surpasses all understanding when I come to you from Jesus.
“There is nothing new under the sun,” the Spirit continued. “God came the last time to His holy Temple, He’s coming this time to the holy Mount of Olives to signify the beginning of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. Not one word that God has revealed to His holy prophets will go unfulfilled. For our Lord is not a lying God, He is the living God,” the Spirit educated me.
This Spirit that comes to me from heaven when I make time to pray in the Spirit, comes from this unknown God that they ignorantly worshiped at Mars’ Hill in Paul’s day. Unfortunately, religion can sometimes be like a stone cast before us that causes us to stumble and not make it into the Kingdom of God, all while worshipping the gods of religions, thereby worshipping Satan who is the ruler of the world. When God was One with Jesus, He commanded His creation in mankind to seek the Comforter in the Holy Spirit that He promised to send back to them from the Father, His holy and everlasting City of Light from above called Jerusalem. Coming from the One they ignorantly worshiped at Mars’ Hill in Paul’s day… “The Unknown God.”
